On Saturday January 7,
1995, a meeting was held at the Lake/Osceola State Bank to discuss the
formation
of a snowmobile club whose purpose would be to enhance and improve snowmobiling
in
Lake County. The immediate goal was to extend the Honeymoon Trail into Baldwin and link it
with the Pere
Marquette Trail east to Reed City. The
Club then took over 17 miles of the New Lake Trail from the Newaygo
County Parks
System, bringing the total number of miles of groomed trails to 54. The Peacock
Trail
connector added another 22 miles, increasing the
club's total of miles to 76.
At the beginning of the 1997-98 season, the
club took over the Newaygo/White
Cloud Trail. This
brought the total miles of groomed trails in the two counties
to over 100! In the 1999-2000 season the
Club took over the trail from Baldwin to Reed City
increasing the total of groomed trails to 136 miles in
three counties.
Taking care of the trails isn't all
about grooming. Having joined the Adopt-A-Forest
Program, Club members
participate in spring clean up to remove trash from the
trails. In the summer and fall we work to improve
the quality of our
trail system by updating signs, maintaining bridges, and widening narrow
trails. We also
have to keep our
fleet of groomers and drags in operating condition.
Currently the Club has three groomers,
to cover all 144 miles of trails.
The club is also involved in snowmobile safety, special
events, and fundraisers.
It is the mission of club
members who volunteer their time to bring you the best trails possible.
